Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
MotoInsights AI ("we," "our," or "us") provides a vehicle diagnostic application that connects to your car's OBD-II port via a Bluetooth adapter, reads live sensor data, and helps you understand your vehicle's health.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We built this app with a simple principle: your vehicle data belongs to you. We do not sell data. We do not show ads. We do not build profiles.
2. Information We Collect
Vehicle & Diagnostic Data (collected locally)
When you connect to your OBD-II adapter and start a diagnostic run, the app reads sensor values from your vehicle, including:
- Engine RPM and speed
- Short-term and long-term fuel trim values
- Coolant temperature and manifold pressure (MAP)
- Timestamps for each sensor poll
This data is stored only on your device. It is never transmitted anywhere unless you trigger an AI analysis or opt into Fleet Data Sharing (see Section 3).
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
When you connect your Bluetooth OBD-II adapter, the app automatically reads your VIN and sends it to a public vehicle database to identify your year, make, and model. We do not store your VIN on our servers.
Bluetooth
The app uses your device's Bluetooth to communicate with your ELM327 OBD-II adapter. We do not log Bluetooth device identifiers or store pairing information beyond what your operating system manages.
Fleet Data Sharing (opt-in)
If you choose to participate in Fleet Data Sharing, an anonymized summary of qualifying runs is submitted to our backend to help build vehicle baseline comparisons. This payload contains only:
- Vehicle year, make, model, engine displacement, and cylinder count
- Run type (e.g., highway, idle, city)
- Aggregated sensor averages (RPM, fuel trims, coolant temp, MAP)
- A computed health score
No VIN, no location, no timestamps, and no personal identifiers are ever included. Participation is entirely optional and can be disabled in the app settings at any time.
Purchases
MotoInsights AI is free to download. The Pro tier is purchased directly through Google Play as an in-app purchase. All billing is managed by Google Play — we do not collect or store your payment information or email address. No account is required to use any feature of the app.
Crash Reports
If the app crashes, anonymous crash data (device model, OS version, stack trace) may be collected to help us fix bugs. No vehicle data or personal identifiers are included in crash reports.
3. How We Use Information
- To perform local diagnostic analysis entirely on your device
- To automatically identify your vehicle via a public vehicle database when you connect your adapter
- To deliver AI-powered analysis — when you tap "AI Diagnosis," a summary of your run data (aggregated statistics, no raw timestamps) is sent to our backend and processed by a large language model on your behalf. This is always an explicit, user-initiated action
- To maintain anonymous vehicle baseline comparisons for fleet benchmarking (only if you opt into Fleet Data Sharing)
- To diagnose and fix app crashes
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your data. Limited sharing occurs only in these cases:
- VIN lookup: Your VIN is sent to a public vehicle database on adapter connection to identify your vehicle. We do not store or retain your VIN.
- AI provider (Pro tier, on demand): When you request an AI diagnosis, an aggregated run summary is sent to our cloud backend, which forwards it to an LLM API. No personally identifying information is included in these payloads.
- Fleet backend (opt-in): Anonymized run summaries containing only vehicle type and aggregated sensor averages — no VIN, no location, no personal data.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of users.
5. Data Storage and Security
All diagnostic runs, sensor samples, and run summaries are stored in your device's local app storage. Data is only transmitted to our servers when you explicitly trigger an AI analysis, or when an eligible run is submitted via Fleet Data Sharing (if you have opted in).
Any data sent to our backend is encrypted in transit (TLS). Fleet submissions are processed server-side and raw payloads are not retained.
Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored diagnostic data from your device.
6. Your Choices and Control
- Local data: You can delete individual runs or all run history from within the app at any time.
- AI analysis: AI features are always opt-in. No data leaves your device without your explicit action.
- Fleet Data Sharing: You can enable or disable Fleet Data Sharing in the app settings at any time. Disabling it stops all future submissions immediately.
- Bluetooth permissions: You can revoke Bluetooth access in your device settings at any time, though this will prevent the app from connecting to your adapter.
7. Children's Privacy
MotoInsights AI is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us so we can delete it promptly.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you within the app. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
